678. Balipriya

పూజాకాలంలో నివేదన చేసే పదార్ధాన్ని బలి అని అంటారు. అటువంటి నివేదనలందు ప్రీతి గలది అమ్మ. అరిషడ్వర్గాలను వదలివేయటమే బలి యొక్క ముఖ్యమైన ఉద్దేశ్యము.పూజలోను, హోమం దగ్గర, ఊరేగింపు సమయంలోనూ, పూజాంతమునందు దేవతలకు బలి సమర్పణ చేస్తారు.

బలి అంటే - అజ్ఞానాన్ని విడిచి, అరిషడ్వర్గాలను జయించినవారు. అట్టివారి యందు ప్రీతి గలది. అరిషడ్వర్గాలను జయించిన వారు అంటే జితేంద్రియలు.

ప్రహ్లాదుని కుమారుడు విరోచనుడు. అతని కుమారుడు బలి. వేదవేదాంగవిదుడు. జితేంద్రియుడు. ధర్మపరుడు. బలి చక్రవర్తిగా గొప్ప కీర్తి గడించాడు. అయినప్పటికీ కర్త్రుత్వ భావన ఇంకా పోలేదు. నేను నాది అన్న అహంకార భావనను ఇంకా వదలలేదు. అందువల్ల మోక్షానికి అర్హత సంపాదించలేక పోయాడు.

అతనిని ఉద్ధరించడానికి విష్ణుమూర్తి వామనావతారమెత్తి వచ్చాడు. బలి ఆయనను చూసి ఈ భూమండలము అంతా నాదే. నీకేం కావాలో అడుగు ఇచ్చేస్తా అన్నాడు. ఇదే కర్తృత్వ భావన అంటే. ఈ సమస్త బ్రహ్మాన్దాలలోను ఆ పరమాత్మయే నిండి ఉన్నాడు. నేను ఆయన అంశ అయిన జీవాత్మను అన్న స్మ్రుతి లేక పోవడం వల్లనే నేను, నాది అనే కర్త్రుత్వ భావన కలుగుతుంది. జితేంద్రియుడు అయినంత మాత్రాన కర్త్రుత్వ భావన పోదు. అది కూడా పోవాలి అంటే ఇంకా జ్ఞానం కలగాలి. ఆ జ్ఞానం బలి చక్రవర్తికి ఇచ్చి అతనికి మోక్షమివ్వడానికే వామనుడు వచ్చాడు. క్షణంలో సమస్త భువన భాన్దాలకూ విస్తరించి చూపించాడు. అప్పడు బలి తానెవరో (జీవాత్మ) ఎదురుగా ఉన్నదెవరో (పరమాత్మ) గ్రహించాడు. నేను నాది అనే అహంకారాన్ని వదిలేసి మోక్షం పొందాడు. అదే వామనుడు బలిని పాతాళానికి పంపడం అంటే.

While performing pooja, we offer favorite things to Gods and demi gods. This is called Bali. The real purpose of Bali is to overcome the craving for these carnal pleasures. Bali is given in a Pooja, Homa, Procession etc.

Bali means shunning the darkness of ignorance and rising to the light of knowledge. To win over the Arishadvarga. Such people are called 'Jitendriya'. Divine mother likes such people. Hence she is called Bali priya.

Virochana is Prahlaada's son. Bali is son of Virochana. Bali studied vedas. He follows dharma. He is very famous as the Emperor Bali. He is a Jitendriya. But he is still bound by karma because he did not overcome his ego. The feeling of I and Mine is the root cause for this. Hence he is still not eligible for moksha.

Lord Vishnu came in the avatar of Vamana to help Bali overcome his ego. Seeing him Bali said, "This entire land is mine. I am the emperor. Ask me what you want and I will give it to you". Not having the awareness of the omnipresent, omnipotence and eternal qualities of paramatma and not knowing that one is jeevatma, a part/aspect of paramatma is the root cause of the feeling of I and Mine. This is what we call as ego and is what Bali is suffering from at that moment. Being Jitendriya doesn't guarantee that one can overcome the ego. It requires more practice. So Lord Vamana spread his body across the whole universe in a split second and showed what/who he is. Then Bali realized his true identity and shunned his ego. Then he attained Moksha. Lord Vamana crushing Bali into earth represents this phenomenon.
