తారకాసుర సంహారం కోసం మేనకా హిమవంతులకు పరమేశ్వరి అంశతో కుమార్తె జన్మించింది. ఆమె పర్వతరాజు కుమార్తె కాబట్టి - పార్వతి.హిమవంతుని కుమార్తె కాబట్టి - హైమవతి. ఈ బాలిక యుక్తవయసురాగానే పరమశివుణ్ణి తప్ప వేరెవరినీ వివాహం చేసుకోను అని తపస్సు చెయ్యటానికి అడవులకు వెళ్ళిపోయింది. అక్కడ రకరకాల పద్ధతులలో, కఠోరనియమనిష్ఠలతో తపస్సు సాగించింది. ఎండాకాలంలో చుట్టూ మండే కట్టెలు ఉంచుకుని. శీతాకాలంలో మెడలోతున ఉన్న చల్లటి నీటిలో మునిగి తపస్సు చేసింది.కొంతకాలం ఒంటిపూట భోజనం, కొంతకాలం భూశయనము, కొంతకాలం ఆహారాన్ని వదిలి, కేవలము ఆకులు అలములు తిని తపస్సు చేసింది. ఆ తరువాత ఆకులు కూడా వదిలేసింది. ఈ రకంగా ఆకులు కూడా తినటం మానివేసింది. కాబట్టి అపర్ణా అని పిలువబడింది.

భూమి - రథముగా, రవి, చంద్రులు - చక్రాలుగా, నాలుగు వేదాలు - గుర్రాలు, బ్రహ్మ - సారథి, మేరువు - విల్లు, శ్రీహరి - అస్త్రం గా చేసుకుని త్రిపురాసుర సంహారానికి బయలుదేరాడు.
భూమి రధం - అంటే నేలపై కూర్చుని తపస్సు చేయటం. భూశయనం చేయటం
సూర్య చంద్రులు చక్రాలు - కాలగమనం సూర్య చంద్రుల కదలికతో తెలుపుతున్నారు
నాలుగు వేదాలు - గుర్రాలు - పార్వతీ దేవి వేదాలలో చెప్పబడినట్లు తపస్సు చేసింది.
బ్రహ్మ - సారథి - ఆవిడ సంకల్పించింది. వేదానికి కట్టుబడింది. కాబట్టి ఆ ప్రయత్నం సక్రమంగా జరిగేలా చూడడం బ్రహ్మ బాధ్యత. అందుకే ఆ రధాన్ని నడిపేవాడు బ్రహ్మ.
మేరువు - విల్లు - మెరువంటే షట్చక్రాలతో ఉన్న శ్రీచక్రం. తపస్సు చేసే వారికి ఇదే ధనుస్సు.
శ్రీహరి - అస్త్రం - ముక్తి కలగాలంటే సకల బంధాలు తెగిపోవాలి. అన్నీ వదిలేసి అడవికి వచ్చేసినా పూర్వ కర్మ వదలదు. అది పోవాలంటే హరి నామ స్మరణ చేయాలి. అప్పుడు పాపమంతా పోతుంది. అందుకని శ్రీహరి అస్త్రం.
త్రిపురాసుర సంహారం లక్ష్యం - అంటే సత్త్వరజస్తమో గుణాలను దాటి నిర్గుణ పరబ్రహ్మాన్ని తెలుసుకోవడం.

Divine mother took birth as daughter of Menaka and Himavantha to kill Tarakaasura. She is called Parvathi because her father is known as Parvatha raja(king of mountains). She is also called Hymavathi because her father is known as Himavantha(mountains covered with snow). After reaching adolescence, she decided to marry Lord Shiva. With a strong determination, she went to forest and started meditating upon Him. There she went through severe hardships while following various practices of tapasya. She meditated at the center of a circle surrounded with burning logs in peak summer. In peak winter, she meditated in neck deep water. She ate only once a day for few days. She slept on floor. Few days she ate only leaves. Later she stopped eating completely. Aparna means not eating even leaves. That is why Divine mother is called Aparna.

Brahma is the rider - Parvathi took the decision to meditate (determination). Because she is following Vedic prescriptions, the onus of making her succeed is on Brahma. So he is the rider of Shiva's chariot
Meru is the bow - Meru represents the chakras of the body through which kundalini rises up. This is the tool to aim the arrow.
Sri Hari is the arrow - The goal is to become free of any kind of indebtedness. Become free of all bonds. Hari means the one who removes guilt, sin and sorrows. So Sri Hari is the arrow.
Goal is to kill Tripurasuras - To reach a state beyond the three gunas (sattva, rajas and tamo) and know the Para brahma (without any guna)
