మహాగ్రాసా అంటే అపరిమితమైన ఆహారం తీసుకునేది.
లౌకిక పరముగా చూస్తే త్రిపురాసుర సంహారంలో రాక్షసులను క్రింద పడకుండా తన నాలుకతో జుర్రుకుని దిగమింగేసింది అమ్మ. ఎందుకంటే వారు క్రింద పడి చస్తే ఆ శవంలోంచి ఇంకో 100 మంది రాక్షసులు పుట్టుకొచ్చే ప్రమాదం ఉంది. అలా ఆ యుద్ధంలో కొన్ని కోట్ల కోట్ల మంది రాక్షసులను నేలమీద పడకుండా మ్రింగేసింది కనుక మహాగ్రాసా అని పిలవబడుతోంది.
సాంకేతిక పరంగా చూస్తే సృష్టి అంతంలో పంచభూతాలన్నీ కాలంలో కలిసిపోతాయి. ఆ కాలం అమ్మలో కలిసిపోతుంది. (కాలహంత్రీ అనే నామంలో మనం ఇది చదువు కున్నాం). ఇలా సర్వం ఆమెలో కలిసిపోతుంది కనుక మహాగ్రాసా అని పిలవబడుతోంది.
ఆధ్యాత్మిక పరంగా చూస్తే సత్వరజస్తమో గుణాలను దాటిన యోగికి నిర్గుణ పరబ్రహ్మ గోచరం అవుతుంది. అదే ఆత్మ సాక్షాత్కారం కలుగుతుంది. జీవాత్మ పరమాత్మలో కలిసిపోతుంది. అప్పుడు యోగి పరమానందాన్ని పొందుతాడు. జీవాత్మ తన సర్వస్వం(ఉనికిని కూడా) కోల్పోయే స్థితి అది. అంతా పరమాత్మలో లయం అవుతుంది. అందుకే మహాగ్రాసా.
Maha graasaa means one who devours unlimited food. During the war with Tripuraasura, Divine mother swallowed dead bodies of Rakshasas such in order to prevent expansion of their army. This is because of the boon Tarakaaksha got from Brahma. As per the boon, if they drop the dead body of a Rakshasa in water, the dead body becomes alive again and multiplies by 100.
Scientifically, Maha graasa represents a specific phase at the end of the creation. All the five elements in the universe dissolve into spacetime. This spacetime gets dissolved into Divine mother. We learnt about this in the name Kaalahanthri
Spiritually, it represents the state of a yogi at the time of self-realization. It is a state where he/she travelled beyond the three gunas 1.Sattva 2.Rajas 3.Tamo. At this point he/she sees the nirguna para brahma. Jeevatma merges into Paramaatma.
