కళలు మొత్తం 16. అవి

1. జాగ్రదవస్థలో నాలుగు. అవి - 1. ఉత్పత్తి 2. జాగ్రత్త 3. బోధ 4. మనోవ్యాపారము.
2. స్వప్నావస్థలో నాలుగు. అవి - 1. అభిలాష 2. భ్రమ 3. చింత 4. విషయవాంఛ
3. సుషుప్తిలో నాలుగు. అవి - 1. మరణము 2. పరాకు 3. మూర్ఛ 4. నిద్ర
4. తురీయావస్థ నాలుగు అవి.1. వైరాగ్యము 2. మోక్షేచ్ఛ 3. మనశ్శుద్ధి 4. సద్వస్తు విచక్షణ.

ఈ పదహారుకళలూ అమ్మ స్వరూపాలే. అందుచేత కలాత్మికా అనబడుతుంది.

1. 4 in the Jagrut(awake) state - 1.Production, 2.Caution, 3. Learn, 4. Mental activities
2. 4 in Swapna(dream) state - 1.Wish, 2. Illusion, 3. Though, 4. Desire
3. 4 in Sushupti(deep sleep) state - 1. Death, 2. Unaware, 3. Unconsciousness, 4. Sleep
4. 4 in Tureeya(Trance) state - 1. Freedom, 2. Eye on Moksha, 3. Pure mind, 4. Discretion of good and bad.

All the 16 kalas are forms of Divine mother. Hence she is called kalatmika
