దక్ష ప్రజాపతి యొక్క కుమార్తె.

దేవీ భాగవతంలో విష్ణువు యొక్క నాభికమలం నుంచి పుట్టిన బ్రహ్మ కొన్ని వేల సంవత్సరాలు తపస్సు చేసి పరమేశ్వరిని మెప్పించి ఆమె అనుజ్ఞతో సృష్టి కార్యక్రమం ప్రారంభించాడు. అందులో భాగంగా మానసికంగా

1. మరీచి
2. అంగీరసుడు
3. అత్రి
4. వసిష్టుడు
5. పులస్త్యుడు
6. పులహుడు
7. క్రతువు

అనేవారిని సృష్టించాడు. వీరు బ్రహ్మ మానసపుత్రులు వీరు కాక రుద్రుడు రోషము వల్ల తొడ నుంచి నారదుడు కుడి చేతి బ్రొటన వేలు నుంచి దక్షుడు ఎడమచేతి బొటన వేలు నుంచి వీరిణి అనే కన్య పుట్టారు. దక్షుడు వీరిణిని వివాహం చేసుకున్నాడు. వీరికి యాభైమంది కుమార్తెలు, ఐదుగురు కుమారులు కలిగారు. వీరిలో పెద్దకుమార్తె సతి. ఆమె పేరే దాక్షాయణి. ఈమె పరమేశ్వరి యొక్క అంశతో పుట్టింది.

In Devi bhagavatam it is explained that the Brahma emerged from the lotus that came out of Lord Vishnu's belly button. He meditated upon Divine Mother for thousands of years. As she blessed him with powers, he started the creation. The below were born out Brahma's mind.

Daksha, Veerini and Naradha were born out the wrath of Rudra. Naradha emerged from his thighs and Daksha emerged from his right hand thumb and Veerni from his left hand thumb. Later Daksha married Veerini and they had 50 daughters and 5 sons. Sati is the eldest of all the daughters. She is also called Dakshayani. She is born with the Shakti of Divine Mother.
