587. kamasevitha

కాముడు - మన్మథుడు. మనువు, చంద్రుడు, కుబేరుడు మొదలగు శ్రీవిద్యోపాసకులు పన్నెండుమందిలోనూ ఒకడు. అతనిచే సేవించబడినది. లక్ష్మీదేవి కుమారుడైన మన్మథుడు అనంగుడు అయికూడా శ్రీవిద్యను పొందగలిగాడు. వ్రేళ్ళు లేనివాడైనప్పటికీ పరమేశ్వరికి మ్రొక్కాడు. మెడ లేనివాడయి కూడా శ్రీవిద్యామణిని ధరించాడు. నాలుక లేనివాడయినప్పటికీ దాని రుచి తెలుసుకున్నాడు.

అరుణోపనిషత్తులో ఇలా చెప్పబడింది. మన్మథుడు అంగములు లేనివాడయినప్పటికీ శ్రీవిద్యను పొందగలిగాడు. అర్చనాది విధులు జ్ఞానికి అనవసరము. శివశక్తులు ఇద్దరూ ఒక్కటే. అనే విషయం తెలుసుకున్నవాడే ముక్తి పొందుతాడు. మన్మథుడు పరమేశ్వరిని ధ్యానించి, చెరకువిల్లు పూలబాణాలు ఆయుధాలుగా పొందగలిగాడు. వాటితో లోకాలన్నీ జయిస్తున్నాడు. శంకర భగవత్పాదులవారు తమ సౌందర్య లహరిలోని 6వ శ్లోకంలో ఈ విషయాన్ని వివరిస్తూ

ధనుః పౌష్పం మౌర్వీ మధుకరమయీ పంచ విశిఖాః
వసంత స్సామంతో మలయమరు దాయోధన రథ:
తథా ప్యేక సర్వం హిమగిరిసుతే ! కామపి కృపాం
అపాంగా త్తే లబ్ధ్వా జగ దిద మనంగో విజయతే ||

తల్లీ ! ఆ మనిషిని చూడబోతే అనంగుడు. అతనికి అసలు శరీరమే లేదు. ఇక ధనుస్సును చూద్దామా - పూవులతో తయారయినది. పట్టుకుంటే నలిగిపోతుంది. అల్లెత్రాడును చూద్దామా - తుమ్మెదల వరుస అవి సరిగా ఉండవు. బాణాలు చూద్దామా - పూలబాణాలు. అవీ తన్మాత్రలు. సామంతుడు (చెలికాడు) చూద్దామా - వసంతుడు. అది కాలం. పలకలేదు. మాట్లాడలేదు. సలహా చెప్పలేదు. ఇక రథం చూద్దామా మలయ మారుతం. దక్షిణ కొండగాలి. అది ఎప్పుడు ఉంటుందో, ఉండదో తెలియదు. అతడికి నుంచోటానికి కాళ్ళు లేవు. ధనుస్సు పట్టుకోవటానికి చేతులు లేవు. సలహా చెప్పే సచివుడు లేడు. రథం లేదు గుర్రాలు లేవు. ఇన్ని అవలక్షణాలు ఉండి కూడా కేవలము నీ కృపాకటాక్ష వీక్షణాలవల్లనే అతడు లోకంలో ప్రసిద్ధులైన తపోధనులతో యుద్ధంచేసి గెలవగలుగుతున్నాడు.

సృష్టి ప్రారంభానికి ముందు మహాకామేశ్వరునితో సేవించబడినది. కాబట్టి కామసేవితా అనబడుతోంది.

Manmatha is one of those 12 great people like Manuvu, Chandra, Kubera etc who learnt and practiced Srividhya. He is son of Goddess Lakshmi. He was able to successfully practice srividhya sans a physical body. He saluted to divine mother though he lacks hands. Meditated upon Divine mother without having a neck. Enjoyed the taste of Srividhya mantra though he does not have a tongue.

It is said like this in Arunopanishath. Manmatha who does not have a physical body acquired the knowledge of Srividhya. Archana, puja and other karmas are required for those who haven't yet possessed the supreme knowledge. Only he who realizes that Shiva and Shakti are same gets liberated. Manmatha meditated upon Divine mother and possessed a bow made of sugarcane and arrows made of flowers. He is able defeat the greatest of the great in this world with them.

Sri Adi Shankaracharya explained the same in the 6th sloka of Soundarya lahari

Dhanun paushpam maurvi madhu-kara-mayi pancha visikha
Vasantaha samanto Malaya-marud ayodhana-rathah;
Tatha'py ekah sarvam Himagiri-suthe kam api kripaam
Apangat te labdhva jagadidam Anango vijayate

Oh ,daughter of the mountain of ice, With a bow made of flowers, bow string made of honey bees,
five arrows made of only tender flowers, with spring season as his minister, and riding on the chariot of breeze from Malaya mountains, the god of love who does not have even a physical body is able to win all the world alone. The only reason - your mercy upon him.

Another way to explain this name is  - At the beginning of the creation, Mahakameswara prayed divine mother to start the creation. So she is called kamasevitha.
