563. Mohini

Mohayateeti Mohini - Moha means to bewitch. To enchant. Cast spell. One who bewitches is Mohini. The name of the power that can bewitch the whole universe.

In Laghunaaradeeyam it is said that, "O beauty! You are bewitching the whole universe. Hence you got that name 'Mohini'. It is because of this quality that you got this name"

The clash between Devatas and Danavas is always on. Their strengths and weakness are explained in the name 'Devakarya Samudyuta'. Daanavas gain early advantage in the beginning but ultimate sucess will be of devatas.

Once in such war, Danavas get very close to victory. They even kill few devatas. Then Devatas approach Lord Vishnu and seek help. Vishnu advised that, "Those who drink Amruth(ambrosia) has no death. It is in the milky ocean. Stir it and bring it out"

Both Devatas and Daanavas teamed up to stir the milky ocean to bring out the Amruth. Several things like kaalakuta, kalpavriksha, Iraavata, Uchaisrava etc came out the milky ocean. But they didn't stop until they found Amruth. Then Amruth came out. Both Devatas and Daanavas started fighting for it. Daanavas snatched it from Devatas and started plans to distribute among themselves. Then Lord vishnu came in the Mohini avatar. She bewitched all the Daanavas. Then she took Amruth from them and distributed it to Devatas.

The spell of Mohini is so strong that even Lord Shiva is bewitched. That is how Hariharan (Lord Ayyappa), the son of Hari (Mohini) and Hara (Shiva) is born.

మెహయతీతి మోహినీ - మోహింపచేయునది కాబట్టి మోహిని అనబడుతుంది.

జగత్తులన్నింటినీ మోహింపచేయునది. మహామాయా స్వరూపము.

లఘునారదీయంలో 'ఓ సుందరీ ! ఈ లోకమంతా నీ చేత మోహింపచేయబడుచున్నది. అందుకని నీ పేరు మోహిని అవుతున్నది. ఈ పేరు నీ గుణమువల్లనే పుట్టినది.

దేవదానవులకు పూర్వకాలం నుండి పోరు జరుగుతూనే ఉన్నది. ఈ పోరు గురించి తెలుసుకోవడానికి దేవ కార్య సముద్యుత నామం చదవండి. మొదట్లో దానవులు గెలుస్తారని అనిపిస్తుంది. కానీ అంతిమ విజయం దేవతలదే.

ఒకసారి పోరులో దేవతలంతా అసురులచేతిలో ఓడిపోవటం కొంతమంది మరణించటం జరుగుతోంది. ఆ సమయంలో దేవతలంతా విష్ణువు దగ్గరకు పోయి మరణం లేకుండా ఏదైనా ఉపాయం చెప్పమన్నారు. అమృతపానం చేసిన వారికి మరణముండదు. అమృతం పాలసముద్రంలో ఉన్నది. సాగరమధనం చేస్తే అమృతం పుడుతుంది అని చెప్పాడు విష్ణువు,

రాక్షసుల సహాయంతో సాగర మధనం చేశారు. దేవతలు. ఐరావతము, ఉచ్చైశ్వరము, కల్పవృక్షము, కామధేనువు, కాలకూటము సముద్రం నుంచి పుట్టినాయి. చివరకు అమృతం పుట్టింది. అమృతం మాదంటే మాదని పోట్లాడుకున్నారు. దేవదానవులు. ఇంతలో విష్ణుమూర్తి మోహినీరూపంలో వచ్చాడు. ఆమె రూపానికి తన్మయులైపోయారు రాక్షసులు. అమృతం నేను పంచుతానన్నది మోహిని. సరే అన్నారు. రాక్షసులు. అసురులను సమ్మోహింపచేసి అమృతాన్ని దేవతలకిచ్చింది. ఈ రకంగా సమ్మోహింపచేసినది మోహిని. బ్రహ్మాండ పురాణంలో

ఆదౌ ప్రాదు రభూ చ్ఛక్తి ర్ర్బహ్మణో ధ్యానయోగతః
ప్రకృతి ర్నామ సా ఖ్యాతా దేవానా మిష్టసిద్ధిదా |
ద్వితీయ మదభూ ద్రూపం ప్రవృత్తే మృతమంథనే
సర్వసమ్మోహజనక మవాగ్మానస గోచరం
యద్దర్శనా దభూ దీశ స్సర్వజ్ పి విమోహితః

బ్రహ్మ యొక్క తపః ఫలంగా పరమేశ్వరి మొదటగా దేవతల కోరికలు తీర్చటానికి ప్రకృతిగా అవతరించింది. ఆ సాగరమధనం చేసేటప్పుడు అందరినీ మోహింపచేస్తూ మోహిని అయింది. ఈ రూపాన్ని శివుడు మోహించాడు అని చెప్పబడింది. ఈ శివకేశవుల పుత్రుడే హరిహరసుతుడు అయ్యప్ప.
