546. Pulomajaarchita

పులోముని కుమార్తె అయిన శచీదేవిచే పూజించబడినది. ఈమె ఇంద్రుని భార్య.

పురూరవుడు రాజ్యం చేస్తున్న రోజులలో ఒకనాడు వనంలో ఊర్వశిని మోహించాడు. వారిద్దరూ కలిసి కొంత కాలం కాపురం చేశారు. వారికి పదిమంది సంతానం కలిగారు. అందులో ఆరవవాడి పేరు 'ఆయువు' ఇతని కుమారుడు నహుషుడు.
వేదవేదాంగవిదుడు. తత్త్వవేత్త, పండితుడు. అనేక యజ్ఞాలు, యాగాలు నిర్వహించాడు. వంద అశ్వమేధాలు చేశాడు.

త్వష్ట ప్రజాపతి కుమారుడు వృత్రుడు రాక్షసనైజం కలవాడు. యుద్ధంలో ఇంద్రుణ్ణి ఓడించాడు. వృత్రాసురునితో గెలవలేక ఇంద్రుడు అతనితో స్నేహంచేసి, వృత్రుడు ఏమరుపాటుగా ఉన్నప్పుడు అతణ్ణి సంహరించాడు. ఆ కారణంగా ఇంద్రుడికి బ్రహ్మహత్యాపాతకం చుట్టుకుంది. అతడి ముఖం కళావిహీనమైపోయింది. దాంతో ఇంద్రుడు అమరావతిని వదిలి మానససరోవరానికి పారిపోయి అక్కడ ఒక పద్మంలో దాక్కున్నాడు.

రాజు లేకుండా రాజ్యం సాగదు కాబట్టి ఇంద్రపదవికి అర్హుడైన వ్యక్తికోసం వెదికారు దేవతలు నూరు అశ్వమేధాలు చేసినవాడు ఇంద్రపదవికి అర్హుడు. భూలోకంలో నహుషుడు చక్రవర్తి ఆ పనిచేశాడు. కాబట్టి అతడికి ఇంద్రపదవిని కట్టబెట్టారు దేవతలు. ధర్మపరుడైన నహుషుడు, ఇంద్రపదవి వచ్చేసరికి భోగలాలసుడైనాడు. సర్వకాల సర్వావస్థలయందుభోగాలలో తేలియాడుతూ చివరకు ఇంద్రుని భార్య శచీదేవి కావాలి అన్నడు. దేవతలు పరిపరివిధాల నచ్చచెప్పటానికి ప్రయత్నించారు. వినలేదు నహుషుడు.

చివరకు దేవగురువైన బృహస్పతి శచీదేవికి భువనేశ్వరీ మంత్రాన్ని ఉపదేశించి 'అమ్మా ! ఈ మంత్రాన్ని జపించు ఆమెయే నీ కష్టాలు తీరుస్తుంది' అన్నాడు. బృహస్పతి మాట ప్రకారం శచీదేవి పరమేశ్వరిని ఆరాధించింది. ఆమె ప్రసన్నమైంది. ఇంద్రుడు అశ్వమేధం చేశాడు. అతని పాపం పోయింది. నహుషుడికి పెద్దపామై పొమ్మని అగస్త్యుడు శాపమిచ్చాడు. ఈ రకంగా పరమేశ్వరి దయవల్ల శచీదేవికి నహుషుని పీడ వదిలింది. ఈ విధంగా పులోముని కుమార్తెతో అర్చించబడింది కాబట్టి ఆ దేవి పులోమజార్చితా అనబడింది.

She who is worshipped by Sachi devi. Wife of Indra, daughter of Puloma.

Once upon a time, Puroorava used to be the emperor of a big empire. He fell in love with Oorvasi and they got married. They had 10 children. The 6th one of those is called 'Ayuvu'. Their son is 'Nahushudu'. Nahusha learnt all the vedas and vedangas. He is a great philosopher. He performed may Yagnas and Yagas. He did 100 Ashwamedha yagas.

Vruthra is the son of Thwashta prajapati. He is a rakshasa. He defeated Indra in a bloody war. Indra lost is kingdom of Amaravati. After sometime, incapable of confronting Vruthrasura in a direct war, Indra killed Vruthrasura by deceit. Due to this, is accrued Brahma hathya pataka(Sin of killing a Brahmin). He lost all his powers. So Indra left Amaravati and went to Manasarovar. He hid there. 

Bereft of a ruler Amaravati became lifeless. So devatas started quest for a new ruler. Only those who did 100 Ashwamedha yagas are elgible to rule Amaravati. So they chose Nahusha to rule Amaravati. After becoming the king of Amaravati, Nahusha got consumed by its beauty and glory. He indulged in its luxuries and lost his discretion of dharma. He intended to force marriage Sachi devi claiming that he is Indra now and so she rightfully belongs to him. Other Devatas tried to explain to Nahusha. They even warned that it would lead to his destruction. But he paid no heed.

Sachi devi approached Guru of Devatas, Bruhaspati for help. He taught her the Bhuvaneswari mantra. He advised her to chant this mantra and then Divine Mother will help her. Sachi devi followed Bruhaspati's advise. Then with help of Divine mother Indra performed an Ashwamedha yaga. With that his sin washed away. Sage Agastya cursed Nahusha to become a serpent. This way, Divine mother helped Sachi devi to overcome all her problems.
