421: Vyahruti

Vyahruti means - the gross form known to the 'Sritendriya'. It expands with pronunciation. Bhuh, Bhuvah, Suvah, Mahah, Janah, Tapah, Satyam are the seven vyahrutis. Of these:

Bhu - Sanmatra
Bhuvah- Swara(voice)
Suvah- Sukha swaroopa (well-being)
Mahah- omnipotent, causal to all
Tapah- One that governs
Satyam - Brahma

Vyahrutas are parts of Parabrahma. In the Taittiriopanishat, in the fifth verse of the Shikshavalli, several methods to worship vyahrutis is explained. Bhuh, bhuvah, suvah are the three vyahrutis. Sage Mahachamasyu performed tapasya and discovered the fourth one - Mahah. Mahah is Brahman. If Mahah is the body, then Bhuh, Bhuvah and Suvah are the body parts. One can do upasana of Vyahrutas because they are said to be parts of Brahma. Upasana of vyahrutas are four types:

1. Upasana from perspective of lokas(world):

Bhu - The globe
Bhuvah - The space
Suvah - The heaven
Mahah - The Adityaloka (where one experiences the brilliance and bliss of soul. Where yoga happens). If upasana is done like this all the worlds are illuminated by the light of the soul.

2. Upasana from perspective of devatas (Angels):

Bhuh - God of Fire
Bhuvah - Sun God
Suvah - God of wind
Mahah - Moon God

3. Upasana from perspective of Vedas:

Bhuh - Rig Veda
Bhuvah -Samaveda
Suvah - Yajurveda
Mahah - Omkaram (Pranava)

4. Upasana from perspective of life forces:

Bhuh -Vayu that governs intake to the body
Bhuvah - Vayu that governs the eliminative functions (excretion, urination, menstruation)
Suvah - Vayu that governs circulation on all levels, expansiveness, pervasiveness
Mahah -Food

In this way these 16 vyahrutis are the body parts of the hiranya garbha. One who is able to know these will be able to know about Brahman.
