Devi Purana has Sixty-eight pilgrim centers. Among them, Vamakesa is the presiding diety in the pilgrim center called Jata. His wife was Vamakeshi.
Goddess proposed in Vamakesvaratantra. It is said to be the most important tantra of Sri Vidya worship. The tantra discussed upon internal worship of Shakti. In Vamakeswara tantra, Shakti asks Shiva, "Lord, you revealed to me all the 64 tantras. But you haven't told me about the 16 vidyas". Then Shiva says, "Those have not be declared yet and are hidden so far." Then Shiva declared them to Shakti
