954. Shambhumohini

తన్మాత్రలను శమింపచేసినవారు ఇంద్రియాలను జయిస్తారు. ఇంద్రియ లౌల్యం క్షణికానందం. అటువంటి వాటి కొరకు వారి మనస్సు చలించదు. అటువండివాడే శంభుడు. నిశ్చలమైన మనస్సు కలవాడు. అంతటి వారిని కూడా మాయ మోహింపజేస్తుంది. దీని మర్మం ఏమిటంటే ఇంద్రియాలను జయించిన తరువాత సాధకులు పట్టు సడలించకూడదు. ఇంకా పట్టుదలతో అమ్మను ప్రార్ధించాలి. అప్పుడే మాయను ఛేదించి మోక్ష సామ్రాజ్యాన్ని గెలుస్తారు. 

అమృతం కోసం దేవదానవులు క్షీరసాగరమధనం చేస్తున్నారు. అందులోంచి కామధేనువు, కల్పవృక్షం, ఐరావతం, హాలాహలం వచ్చాయి. చివరకు అమృతం వచ్చింది. అమృతం కోసం మళ్ళీ దేవదానవులు తగువులాడుకున్నారు. అప్పుడు విష్ణుమూర్తి మోహినీ రూపంలో వచ్చి రాక్షసులను భ్రమింపచేసి, అమృతాన్ని దేవతలకు అందించాడు. ఆ సమయంలో కంఠంలో గరళాన్ని ఉంచుకున్న శంభుడు మోహినిని చూసి చాలించాడు. అప్పుడే అయ్యప్ప స్వామి జననం జరిగింది. అమ్మ మాయా మోహినీ స్వరూపం దేవతలను, రాక్షసులను మాత్రమేకాదు, శంభుడిని కూడా మోహింపచేసింది. అందుకే శంభు మోహిని అని అన్నారు. 

Those who pacify thanmathras triumph over senses. All sensory pleasures are momentary. They don't crave for such momentary pleasures. That is God Shambhu. He has a still mind. However, even he is not beyond the realm of Mother's maya. He succumbed to her power of illusion. The secret being revealed here is, after triumphing over senses, spiritual practitioners should not relax. They should continue their pursuit and rise to the level beyond maya. Only then they will reach the final state of Liberation.

Both devatas and raakshasas teamed up to stir the milky ocean to pull out amruta out of it. The kamadhenu, kalpavruksham, iraavatam, haalahalam came from it. After that came amruta. Devatas and Rakshasa started bickering for amrutha. Then Lord Vishnu came in the form of Mohini. He mesmerized everyone and served amrutha to devatas. Lord Shambhu who swallowed the haalahala and kept in his throat also got mesmerized with the beauty of Mohini. That eventually led to the birth of Lord Ayyappa. As even Lord Shambhu succumbed to mother's power of illusion, she is called Shambhu Mohini.

There is a scientific aspect to this story - Sun emits ultraviolet rays. They are harmful to us. The ozone layer above the earth absorbs all these harmful rays and pass down only those sunrays that are safe and useful to us. If the ozone layer does not exist, the heat of ultraviolet rays will kill all the life on earth. In the story of ksheera saagara madhanam, when haalahalam comes out of the milky ocean, it emitted unbearable heat. Then beings on the earth along with devatas and raakshasas pray Lord Shambhu to protect them from the heat. They pray him that you are our father, so you have to protect us from this unbearable heat or else all your children will die. Then Lord Shambhu swallows the haalahala. But he cannot push it down to his stomach as it will burn all the adho lokas inside his stomach. So, he will retain it in his throat. Then his throat will start radiating blue light. That gives the name neelakantha to Lord Shiva.

ఈ కధలో ఒక గొప్ప సాంకేతిక ప్రక్రియ దాగి ఉంది. సూర్యుని నుంచి వచ్చే అతి నీలలోహిత కిరణాల వేడిని భూమిపై ఉన్న జీవాలు భరించలేవు. భూమి ఉపరితలంలో ఉన్న ఓజోన్ పొర ఆ నీల లోహిత కిరణాలను గ్రహిస్తుంది. మనకు క్షేమమైనవి అవసరమైనవి అయిన సూర్య కిరణాలనే భూమి మీదకు పంపిస్తుంది. క్షీర సాగర మధనంలో హాలాహలం పుట్టినప్పుడు అదే జరుగుతుంది. ఆ హాలాహలంనుండి భరించలేని వేడి ఉత్పన్నమవుతుంది. అప్పుడు దేవతలు, రాక్షసులు, ఋషులు శంభుడిని కాపాడమని వేడుకుంటారు. నీవే మా అందరికీ తండ్రివి. నీ పిల్లల్ని రక్షించే భారం నీదే అని అంటారు. అప్పుడు ఆయన ఆ హాలాహలాన్ని గుటుక్కుని మింగివేస్తాడు. మింగాడుకాని దానిని కడుపులోకి పంపలేడు. ఎందుకంటే ఆయన కడుపులో అధోలోకాలు ఉన్నాయి. దాని వేడికి అవి నాశనమవుతాయి. అందుకని దానిని ఆయన కంఠంలోనే ఉంచుకుంటాడు. అది అక్కడినుంచి నీల కాంతి వెదజిమ్ముతుంది. అందుకే శివునికి నీలకంఠుడు అని పేరు వచ్చింది.
