ధామ అంటే అవస్థ. ఎవరు జాగ్రత్స్వప్న సుషుప్తులను తెలుసుకుంటాడో అతడికి ఆత్మసాక్షాత్కారమవుతుంది. అటువంటి వారు మర్త్య లోకానికి తిరిగి రారు.
భగవద్గీత:
న తద్భాసయతే సూర్యో న శశాంకో న పావకః
య ధత్వా న నివర్తంతే తద్ధామ పరమం మమ.
ఆత్మ జ్యోతిని సూర్యుడు ప్రకాశింపచేయడు. చంద్రాగ్నులు ప్రకాశింపచేయరు. అది స్వయంప్రకాశము. దానిని పొందువారు తిరగిరారు అని చెప్పబడింది.
జాగ్రత్ స్వప్న సుషుప్త్యాఖ్యం వేదధామత్రయం తు యః
స ఏవాత్రానమద్దృశ్యం తస్మిన్ సర్వం ప్రకల్పితమ్
జాగ్రత్స్వప్న సుషుప్తులకు సాక్షిగా ఉండి ఎవరిని తెలుసుకొంటున్నారో, దానిని ఆత్మ అంటారు. కంటికి కనిపించేది. కనిపించనిది అంతా దానియందే కల్పితమై ఉన్నది.
కూర్మపురాణంలో
సైషా మాహేశ్వరీ గౌరీ మమశక్తి ర్నిరంజనా
శాంతం సత్యం సదానందం తద్దామ పరమంపదమ్
నిరంజనము, శాంతము, సత్యము, సదానందస్వరూపాలైన నా శక్తులు మహేశ్వరి, గౌరి, పరమ ధామములు అని చెప్పబడింది. అందుచేత అమ్మ పరంధామ అనబడుతోంది.
Parandhama means the greatest abode. A state from which one need not return to mortal world.
Bhagavadgita:
Na tadbasayate sooryo nashashaanko na paavakah
ya dhatvaa na nivartante taddaama paramam mama
The glow of Atma is self-luminous. It is not affected by the sun or moon. Those who experience it will not return to mortal world. They reach the highest abode.
Jaagrath swapna shushupthyaakhyam vedadhamatrayam tu yah
sa evatraanamaddrusyam tasmin sarvam prakalpitam
There are three states of existence. They are Jaagruth - Awake, Swapna - Dream, Shushupthi - Deep sleep. Atma is the one that is aware of all the three states. It is a state beyond these three. It is called Tureeya state (Trans). It is the ultimate state.
Koorma purana:
Naisha maaheshwaree gouree mamashakthirniranjanaa
shaantham satyam sadaanandam taddaama paramampadam
There is no shortcut to the state of tureeyam. It is the real, peaceful and happy state. Masheshwari, Gouri are the ultimate abodes. They are Shakthis of Divine mother. Hence, she is called Parandhaama.
